Review: Ras GTPases and myosin: Qualitative conservation and quantitative diversification in signal and energy transduction

چکیده
Most GTPases and many ATPases belong to the P-loop class of proteins with significant structural and mechanistic similarities. Here we compare and contrast the basic properties of the Ras family GTPases and myosin, and conclude that there are fundamental similarities but also distinct differences related to their specific roles. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. What vibrations tell us about GTPases.
In this review, we discuss how time-resolved Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy is used to understand how GTP hydrolysis is catalyzed by small GTPases and their cognate GTPase-activating proteins (GAPs). By interaction with small GTPases, GAPs regulate important signal transduction pathways and transport mechanisms in cells. The GTPase reaction terminates signaling and controls tran...
متن کاملMetadiscourse Features in Medical Research Articles: Subdisciplinary and Paradigmatic Influences in English and Persian
Disciplinary studies on metadiscourse in academic texts have come a rather long way (since the 1980s) to afford an awareness of the ways authors strive to signal their insights into their materials as well as their audience. However, few comprehensive corpus-based studies to date have provided a starting point for shaping our understanding of subdisciplinary and paradigmatic diversities within ...
متن کاملRab11 in Disease Progression
Membrane/ protein trafficking in the secretory/ biosynthetic and endocytic pathways is mediated by vesicles. Vesicle trafficking in eukaryotes is regulated by a class of small monomeric GTPases the Rab protein family. Rab proteins represent the largest branch of the Ras superfamily GTPases, and have been concerned in a variety of intracellular vesicle trafficking and different intracellular sig...
متن کاملEvolution and Diversity of the Ras Superfamily of Small GTPases in Prokaryotes
The Ras superfamily of small GTPases are single domain nucleotide-dependent molecular switches that act as highly tuned regulators of complex signal transduction pathways. Originally identified in eukaryotes for their roles in fundamental cellular processes including proliferation, motility, polarity, nuclear transport, and vesicle transport, recent studies have revealed that single domain GTPa...
متن کاملCytoskeletal Effects of Rho-Like Small Guanine Nucleotide–Binding Proteins in the Vascular System
Rho-like small GTPases, with their main representatives (Rho, Rac, and Cdc42), have been recognized in the past decade as key regulators of the F-actin cytoskeleton. Rho-like small GTPases are now known to play a major role in vascular processes caused by changes in the actin cytoskeleton, such as smooth muscle cell contraction, endothelial permeability, platelet activation, and leukocyte migra...
